Durham Castle Lecture Series

The Great Hall plays host to a number of high-profile speakers throughout the year who can contribute to academic and public discussion on issues of global significance. Each of the specially invited presenters has made an outstanding contribution over a sustained period of time to their respective fields.

Since it was established in 2012, the Durham Castle Lecture Series has developed an enviable reputation as a centre for debate and learning. To enable the Durham Castle Lecture Series to continue to build on this success, we would like to offer both companies and individuals the chance to invest in the Castle's academic future. Lecture sponsorship would enable the sponsor to associate themselves with one of the country's foremost academic lecture series. Prices start at:

  • £1,500 for a stand-alone lecture
  • £10,000 for a multiple lecture series

Supporting a named lecture or lecture series an outstanding way of helping the College’s students expand and improve their academic talents and understanding.

Previous speakers have included:

  • Rowan Williams - Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge and former Archbishop of Canterbury.

  • Martin Wolf - Associate Editor and Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times.

  • Carol Ann Duffy - Poet Laureate.

  • Noam Chomsky  - Institute Professor and Professor of Linguistics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

  • Dr Navanethem Pillay - Former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

  • Dame Jocelyn Bell-Burnell - Professor of Astrophysics, University of Oxford

We also offer the opportunity to sponsor a lecture series over a longer period of time. This is an excellent opportunity to really have a long lasting effect on education at Castle.

  • In this case the named lecture series would run for a number of years featuring up to ten lectures a year.
  • The overall cost of the sponsorship would rise proportionally, depending on the number of lectures supported.
