Castle Career Contacts

We are looking for Castle alumni who would be willing to offer informal careers advice to students who are beginning to think about their career after Castle.

When you were first looking for a career, did you wish you could talk to someone who was actually doing what you thought you might want to do? Ever wish that you knew someone in a particular company who could tell you what it really is like, and if the training scheme is any good?

Now that you are working, would you be prepared to help the current generation of Castle students with exactly that sort of information? Whether you've retired, or are a recent graduate, your experience and advice could be of great help to Castle students.

How much commitment is involved?

Other colleges' experiences suggest that the commitment required is minimal - most alumni receive 1 or 2 emails a term.

If at any time you decide you would like to withdraw from the scheme, you are welcome to do so by emailing

I only graduated last year, can I still help?

Recent graduates can offer a different, but equally valuable form of advice to current students. Having the experience of passing through assessment centres, interviews and application processes more recently can be of great help when offering advice to Castle students.

I am not in the UK, can I still volunteer?

Where you live is not important (all contact is through email) and we have a number of overseas volunteers already. The experience so far is that most volunteers get 1 or 2 emails a term, but that probably depends on how much information you offer in your website entry.

How do I know it's a Castle student who has contacted me?

Students will be requested to contact you using their Durham email address. If you are unsure if they are a Castle student, please email with the student's name, and we can verify their identity.
